What is acne, and why do you get it?
Acne appears when oil, dead skin cells and bacteria block the hair follicles. The sebaceous glands, densest on the face, chest and back, produce an oily substance called sebum, and when production is high, often for hormonal or hereditary reasons, the pores cannot keep up. The result is blackheads, spots and inflamed congestion.
Squeezing them yourself usually makes matters worse: bacteria are pushed deeper, the inflammation spreads and the risk of marks and scarring increases. Professional acne treatment does the opposite: the pores are opened with steam, emptied gently with the right technique and the skin is calmed with products chosen for acne-prone skin. With regularity the cycle is broken: less congestion, fewer new breakouts and a lower risk of lasting marks.

If the acne has already left its mark there is more to be done, on the face as well as the back. Bio microneedling, algneedling, creates millions of microchannels entirely without needles and is used for both acne scarring and pigment marks after spots, and beyond the face it can also treat the back, décolletage and other areas. Preparation
Before your treatment
This is how you prepare for the best result.
- Do not squeeze or pick at spots and blackheads in the days before the treatment, let us take care of it properly
- Come without makeup if you can, otherwise we start with makeup removal
- Pause retinol, AHA/BHA acids and other strong skincare three to five days before you come
- If you have ongoing medical acne treatment, for example prescription medication such as isotretinoin, tell us when booking; some treatments then need to be adapted or postponed
- Avoid sun and sunbeds immediately before and for 24 hours after the treatment
After the treatment the skin can be slightly pink for a few hours. Avoid makeup for the rest of the day if you can, and stick to mild, unperfumed products for the first 24 hours.

How many treatments are needed to get rid of acne?
It depends on how active the acne is. With a lot of congestion, a treatment every four to six weeks is often recommended until the skin has calmed down, after which less frequent maintenance treatments are enough. Expect it to take a few months to break the cycle, the skin’s renewal cycle is around four weeks, and be sceptical of anyone promising results from a single treatment. Is acne caused by poor hygiene?
No, that is a persistent myth. Acne is governed above all by hormones, heredity and oil production, not by how often you wash. Washing the face too hard or too often can in fact make acne worse, since dried-out skin responds by producing more oil. Mild cleansing twice a day is enough, we do the rest at the clinic.
Can adults have acne treatment with you?
Absolutely, adult acne is far more common than most people think, particularly in women around hormonal changes. The treatments are the same but adapted for adult skin, which is often both acne-prone and drier or more sensitive than teenage skin. Many of our acne clients are between 25 and 45.
Do the treatments help with acne scarring?
The acne treatments focus on calming active acne and preventing new breakouts, which in itself reduces the risk of new scarring. For existing scars and pigment marks there is bio microneedling and chemical peeling, which work with the skin’s deeper renewal. Active acne is always treated first, then we take on the scarring; in that order you get the best result.
When is a salon treatment not enough, do I need medical care?
With severe acne involving deep, painful cysts, or acne that leaves scarring despite treatment, you should contact a health centre or dermatologist, who can offer prescription treatment. Salon treatments and medical treatment do not exclude each other, on the contrary they often complement each other well. We always say honestly if we judge that your skin needs more than we can give, that is part of the job.
