What is bio microneedling (algneedling)?
Bio microneedling takes microneedling to its next stage of development. The treatment uses sponge spicules, a kind of silica-containing bio microneedle extracted from the freshwater sponge, which to the naked eye look like a powder but under a microscope are sharp rod-shaped crystals.
When they are worked into the skin they stimulate both the outer layer, the epidermis, and the deeper layer, the dermis, and create a full 3 million microchannels, compared with classic microneedling which creates around 1 million. Those microchannels wake the skin’s own healing response, which sets the production of collagen and elastin going and renews the skin from within.
All of this without needles, without blood and without the pain and redness classic microneedling can bring.
What bio microneedling treats
Just like classic microneedling, bio microneedling is effective against a long list of skin concerns, but in a gentler way:

Bio microneedling for the scalp
Algneedling also works excellently on the scalp, where it becomes a powerful tool against several common problems. The treatment can help with oily hair, an irritated scalp and hair loss, or be done as a deep cleanse that both exfoliates the scalp and increases collagen production where the follicles sit. The microchannels stimulate circulation and wake the scalp’s own renewal, in the same way as on the face.
Before a scalp treatment the hair should be freshly washed, and afterwards you wait at least 24 to 48 hours before washing it again. If you want to work more specifically against hair loss, the treatment can be combined with our hair loss treatment.

Bio microneedling Stockholm price
Microneedling in Stockholm often costs between SEK 1,500 and 3,000 per treatment, and needle-free versions sit in the upper part of that range. At Tota Estetiska Klinik in Kungsholmen, bio microneedling costs SEK 2,200 for 60 minutes, a good price for a gentle treatment with a result that builds over a course.

Preparation
Before your treatment
This is how you prepare for the best result:
- Come without makeup, otherwise we start with makeup removal
- Pause strong skincare such as retinol, AHA/BHA acids and exfoliating products 3 to 5 days before the treatment
- Avoid sun and sunbeds in the week before the treatment
- For a scalp treatment: come with freshly washed hair, and wait at least 24 to 48 hours before washing it afterwards
- Tell us when booking if you have an ongoing skin infection, eczema or other skin conditions in the treatment area
- After the treatment: the skin can be slightly pink and feel tight for a day; avoid sun, sauna, swimming and sweaty exercise for the first 24 hours, and use sun protection over the following days

Frequently asked questions about bio microneedling in Kungsholmen
Does bio microneedling hurt?
No, that is the whole point of bio microneedling. Unlike classic microneedling, which is done with needles and can cause stinging and redness, algneedling works with microscopic sponge spicules entirely without needles, blood or pain. The skin can feel slightly warm or tight afterwards, but the visible effect is minimal.
What is the difference from ordinary microneedling?
Classic microneedling, such as our microneedling with EPN, uses needles that create around 1 million microchannels and can cause redness and a healing period. Bio microneedling uses sponge spicules that create a full 3 million microchannels, entirely without needles and with minimal visible effect afterwards. The result is in the same spirit, skin renewal and collagen stimulation, but the route there is gentler.
When will I see results?
The skin keeps building new collagen in the weeks after each treatment, so the result builds gradually. Many people see more even, fresher skin after the very first treatment, while the full result on scarring, pigmentation and lines comes after a completed course of 4 treatments two weeks apart.
Can bio microneedling be used on stretch marks and scars on the body?
Yes, that is one of the treatment’s strengths. Since it can be carried out on larger areas such as the stomach, back, thighs and décolletage, it is effective against both stretch marks and scarring on the body, not only on the face. At your visit we assess the area and set out a plan.
Does the treatment suit sensitive skin?
Bio microneedling is often a good choice for sensitive skin too, precisely because it is needle-free and gentle. If you have a skin condition, rosacea in flare or an ongoing breakout, we adapt the treatment or wait; tell us about your skin when booking and we will make an assessment together.
